Ancient history

First record I ever bought. I was relatively late into buying music, and perhaps as a result once I started I seem to buy LPs more than singles - having bought this single I soon after bought the LP, Out of the Blue, which included the track I already had. If LPs were going to contain two, three or more tracks that were also singles, why not just buy the LP? After all they seemed better value, but that was probably completely missing the point. I expect this object looks at least as alien to the MP3 download generation as old phonograph cylinders looked to me.
