Bells of Jvari Church

Jvari Church stands on a hill overlooking Mtskheta, a small town which is considered the spiritual heart of Georgia, and where Christ's robe is buried, according to Georgian tradition. The hilltop church is considered by many to be the country's holiest of holies, and was built on the site where a sacred wooden cross was erected in the 4th century by St Nino, or perhaps King Mirian. The church is guarded by a monk, although he was fast asleep on the souvenir stall when we arrived, and showed no intention of sitting up when he noticed us.
