Occupy Portland Keeps on Keeping On
Occupy Portland has never stopped organizing and working. I had to back away while I was ill, but Adam Rothstein and an editorial committee kept The Occupier going (and polished it up). Others found an inside space, raised money, got the necessary legal work done, rented it and furnished it. Still others kept on cooking, educating, spreading the word, organizing demonstrations, and working in their committees.
Tonight there was a community gathering: a chance for us to see each other again, to explore the new space, to sign up for ongoing projects and to continue the conversations that were interrupted when the police and Homeland Security evicted us from the encampment. About three hundred people showed up, and it was wonderful to feel the energy rise.
