A Country Church

St Augustine's Anglican Church - Clarkville

One of the oldest church buildings in Canterbury, St Augustine's Anglican Church was completed in 1860. It was initially referred to as a school-chapel then later as the Chapel of East to St Bartholomew. The chapel was closed for a short time, but then re-opened in February 1870 and four years later was enlarged to become the present St Augustine's Anglican Church.

A small cemetery is on site with many interesting headstones. Mum and I enjoyed our little wander round this tiny church surrounded by a hedge of holly with nearby paddocks of grazing sheep. Today the church is used for occasional services, baptisms, weddings and funerals.

I will re-visit this church sometime as I feel its not quite the right angle, the small bell tower is obscure and the cross above the entrance is out of view, rather challenging to get the right shot with this huge wide tree near the entrance. I will also need to consider the light as I should imagine the tree would cast quite a heavy shadow at the wrong time of day.

No flowers today as the wind has been persistantly strong all day. It was interesting to read your comments yesterday over the blipped lily and the blipfolio cornflower - your thoughts were pretty even. I blipped the lily as it was more natural whereas the cornflower was heavily processed but lots of fun, thank you for your kind words :)

Enjoy the weekend :)
