Andy Jackson - Welsh party trick

It happened again this afternoon.

I am Welsh but do not speak it yet I keep coming across non-Welsh people who either speak it or know a little of the language.

Like Andy Jackson my Apple trainer in Glasgow this afternoon. (Not wishing to plug Apple but one of their best-kept secrets is their One to One package giving you two hours individual tuition once a week for a year for a modest fee).

Andy in a previous life had been with the Royal Air Force based in North Wales.

Once he realised I was Welsh, without prompting, he stood up and recited the name of the longest place name in Europe, and one of the longest in the world.

"Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch."

Now that is what I call cool.

The short form of the village's name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, also spelled Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll.

It is commonly known as Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll, and that is about as much as I can manage of this small village in North Wales.
