Tay Ghillie

The River Tay at Stanley

The Tay is a massive river and this picture shows well just how varied and tumultuous the currents are. Despite this we anglers search out the pockets of quiet water where fish are likely to be found and just occasionally we are successful. Today we had one grayling, ten brown trout and a salmon kelt - a kelt is a salmon that ran upstream last season and which has spawned and is now dropping downstream to return to sea. They are classed as 'unclean' fish and by law must be returned, so back it went to continue its journey. A good day and the Tay salmon fishing season starts for real on the 15th January.
