Roman baths??

Who would have known that the owners of these cars were parking on top of Dorchester's Roman baths!

Dorchester was originally a Roman town built in 60 AD. They called the settlement Durnovaria and until the 19th century all rebuilding in the town happened within the three Roman walls, the River Frome acting as the fourth boundary. Now the suburbs stretch further and further away from the centre with Poundbury, nearly a town in itself, tacked on to the west side.

Every time a building is demolished within the town's walls there is an archaeological dig to discover more. In 1978, Wollaston House and its playing field behind (once part of Hardye's School) changed ownership and the archeologists moved in to dig below the playing field and found the baths. After they had finished the area was carefully covered over with tarmac and made into this carpark. Another piece of the jigsaw had been found.

A brief trip to Dorchester for my now weekly visit to the dentist!
T arrived back just after midnight early this morning having driven all the way from Tignes to Somerset. They started out at about 6 am this morning and dropped off P at the station in Dijon on the way. The journey was just over 800 miles and he was still awake to tell the tale albeit with a bad cold. It was lovely to have him back safe and sound and the gang really enjoyed their week's skiing.
