the Djibouti road
Time to get out of the city, I decided. See a wee bit of the rest of Ethiopia.
But not too far - I'm traveling tomorrow.
So I set my sights on a wee hurl down the Djibouti road to Bishoftu. It's famous (in Ethiopia) for a collection of volcanic crater lakes.
Well worth it, although it took 90 minutes to drive 50 km - the road also carries traffic heading for Somalia (well, someone must go), Kenya and some southern provinces.
Objective achieved. Saw 3 beautiful lakes & amazing birdlife, had a cracking lakeside lunch (injera with tibs & lab, eaten with my right hand), as well as being introduced properly to the Ethiopian highway code. Lucky I didn't have to drive.
