Nature's Christmas Ball

I found these in our back yard today. They are seed pods from one of the trees. I thought they looked "hostile" when I picked them up and felt them, sort of thorny.

Then I continued with my macro focus stacking and came up with this. Actually it looks best large.

I'll do a few more "focus stacking" shots, then I'll be off to something new.
