Pa amb tomaquet

Sometimes it takes us no time at all to take for granted what at first we find unusual.

Today I was making the sandwiches for the boys "piece" for tomorrow when I realised that what I was making would be totally alien to most people in Britain.

Pa amb tomaquet, literally bread with tomato is ubiquitous in Catalonia, served as a s snack, an aperitif, a light (!) supper, it is a simple dish of bread, either fresh or toasted, rubbed with ripe tomato and drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with salt and today layered with slices of Pernil Salat (like, but better than Parma Ham), tomorrow Pernil Dulce, boiled ham with maybe a slice of cheese.

We have tried to replicate this in Britain ,but it never works properly, the bread doesn't taste the same , the tomatoes are hard and acid, and it disappoints. One more example of a food that travels badly but is so delicious at home
