Joey

An early Victorian silver groat dated 1838 so about 175 years old. A combination of two images to show obverse (head side) and reverse. As you can see it had a face value of 4d so 3 to the shilling. They were later popularly known as "joeys" apparently after a Joseph Hume who suggested they should minted as 4d was the fare for the London omnibus. After 1873 they were no longer minted. It's about 17mm across just a little smaller than the modern 5p coin.
