I took a bus down to SELKIRK on my last day off. It was another day out with my over sixty bus pass.It took me a hour and forty five minuits to get there. I just had time to get a coffee and cake and a few photos before getting the bus home.The
african explorer MUNGO PARK came from the near by YARROW VALLY.He sailed to find thesource of the niger,but died in the atempt in 1805. In the church
in SELKIRK ,WILLIAM WALACE[BRAVE HEART] was proclaimed GARDIAN
of SCOTLAND in 1298.In the same grave yard lies the maternal ancestors of the therty second american president FRANKLIN D ROSEVELT. It is also famous for it's SELKIRK BANNOCK .A small fruit loaf in a bun shape to be eaton with butter or jam. Made famous by queenVICTORIA, on a visit to Sir WALTER SCOTT at his house at ABBOTSFORD near by. Statue is of SIR WALTER
