Suzdal

The small town, 5 hours from Moscow by fast train and slow bus, hosts some of medieval Russia's finest churches - and for a population of about 10,500 the 30 exultant domes seem rather an embarrassment of riches.

In summer it's packed with tourists, but for some reason in November at -7C it wasn't so crowded.
