Up a tree

This photo was taken on another beautiful December day in Cheltenham. We've had such wonderful weather...so incongruent with the season.

What is that thing up the tree? A lone ball of...well not sure of what really. Is it a nest, a bushy outcrop, or a has someone stuck it on with velcro? Certainly looked a little odd.
