Poor tree

This is a tree in the grounds of my work. It was felled by the recent high winds.

It's such a sad but interesting photo.

How many years had it been standing there quite happily till the fateful day/night that the wind came along? The large clump of mud at the base shows just how wet it's been; and the pool of water in the hole shows how high the water level is.

I would have thought that its roots would have gone down deeper. Maybe in the future we will only have trees whose roots embed themselves far far into the ground because it does feel like warmer wetter windier is the www that have have to look forward to in Scotland.

But like I said. Poor tree :-(
