Male Great Spotted Woodpecker

It's one of the few birds I can recognise without resorting to a book!

I went to my favourite red squirrel hang-out this morning, with the intention of taking some photos of them but, apart from a brief glimpse, they were not co-operating. It was still a nice way to while away a couple of hours though, I saw two stoats frolicking about, and several grey squirrels, a jay and of course this woodpecker... not bad at all!
