Anglican Church of the Holy Innoncents
Gale force winds in August 1890 blew the orginal church over, destroying it. Only the tower which had been bolted to the foundations was left standing. Almost immediately this church was rebuilt to the design of J C Maddison at a cost of seven hundred pounds. Bishop Churchil Julius re-opened the church later that year.
It sits rather well against the summer afternoon sky of today with the long blooms of the agapanthus in the foreground. I noticed today that the old vicarage is for sale.
This morning was dull and grey and the air fresh and cool after rain last night. I wandered down to the gym bright and early then came home and started on some spring cleaning while Hubby dug some potatoes and weeded. In the middle of the day when it was too hot, we ventured out for a drive through some small towns and out into the country, the sky blue and the smell of hay drifted through the opened windows. Since being at home we're back into job mode and just thinking about a bbq tea - Great summer days!
I was chuffed this morning to find my daisy on the spotlight page, thank you so much really lifted my spirits after such a terriable day, your all so kind.
A new week has started - hope its a good one for all of you :)
Sorry folks forgot to mention this church is tucked in behind the busy main road of the drive through town of Amberley in North Canterbury - it survived the earthquakes :)
