Mineral Facts
Well, my first blip of 2012 and I've also managed to link it to my crafting.
The first WBC theme of this year is "Mineral" so I retreated to the craft emporium in Crafty Towers to pick which one of my minerals was going to feature in the blip. I have a stash of gemstones waiting to be made into jewellery but as most crafters who do this as a hobby will know the usual approach is to bring out the gem tub every so often, stare at the strands and stones with creative visions filling your head only to put everything back after 30 minutes because it would be a shame to use something so lovely!!
This slice of purple agate is in the waiting room until the time comes when it will fulfill it's purpose in this life as a pendant on a necklace. It began life inside a cavity in a rock. When the rock erupted it filled with water and carbon dioxide, over time the silica filtered out through the holes in the rock and crystallised and agate filled the cavity. For fact fans out there, Agate measures between 6.5 and 8 on the Mohns scale of mineral hardness.
Perhaps one day there will be a blip of the finished necklace. Until then, the slab on it's own is my entry for the WBC.
