Lhsa and the Potala

This classic tourist view of Lhasa and the Potala Palace (the winter palace of the Dalai Lama) speaks volumes about the Chinese in Tibet. The most important Buddhist and Tibetan sites have been preserved, but these are surrounded by Chinese built infrastructure including multi-lanes roads, hops, housing and army barracks. Visible on the full resolution version of this picture are Tibetan pilgrims who walk round and through the Potala; and Chinese army and police who look after them. (Fire extinguishers close to hand in case any decide to set themselves on fire.)

Elsewhere in Lhasa, the Han Chinese greatly outnumber the Tibetans.
