The High Peak - River Ashop

This was the weekend of The Rucksack Club's Flagship events, a walk/run of 23 miles across the High Peak from Marsden to Edale. The route goes over three of the highest summits, Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder before dropping into the village of Edale. Like all linear walks there is always a problem of transport and one way of resolving this is to cover the distance twice, this is knows as a double crossing or 'Double'. Nine sturdy beasts completed this feat of endurance, setting off at 10.00pm on Friday and finishing at about 6.30pm Saturday IWC was one of them. I contented myself with a single crossing.

This is the River Ashop, with the high ground of Bleaklow in the distance. You can see the diagonal path we were aiming for to take us to the summit, on the upper right hand side of the image. A grand day out, but I was glad I didn't have to turn around and do it again!
