To Boat Of Garten and my 91 yr old uncle Harold's and 81 yr old 'wicked step aunty' Jean's for a Scottish New Year, with cousin Mike & his wife Annie. Harold & Jean's place is trapped in a long past time. The 'servants' bells still work. Jean makes porridge the Scottish way. They still have an 'old money' to decimal converter up in the kitchen.

My Uncle Harold holds the Distinguished Flying Cross. He tries to play it down but does reveal to me that he shot 3 enemy planes down in his Hurricane and once flew over Rommel's staff car, on a reconnaissance mission near Tobruk. He doesn't reveal much else. He just goes off to his little room to smoke his pipe at the first break in my questions. Like so many real life heroes of WW2 he doesn't talk about the war.
