Grobust

I honestly think that Grobust is one of my favourite places on the planet.

It must be as I've just noticed my 'one year ago' and we were there this day last year. Slightly different weather but just as much fun. Picnic on the beach (wrapped in jumpers of course), the boys dug a large hole in the sand dunes and then we tired ourselves out racing around the links on the bikes.

Which of course meant we had to refuel on hot chocolate, coffee and cakes.

The wall in the foreground is a 'Tangle' dyke. Tangle seaweed was piled up here to dry before being burned in shallow pits to produce Kelp for the production of soap, iodine and the alginate industry. An interesting part of Scottish history, at one point it was a big industry here and in the Western isles. Very profitable for the big guns but backbreaking, hazardous work for the crofters. No surprise there then.
