Starbeck Baths

Starbeck is a small community on the outskirts on Harrogate, which was once an area of mineral springs. In 1822 a local man formed the Knaresborough Spa Baths Company which restored the Starbeck Springs in order to cash in on the popularity of the nearby Harrogate spa industry.

The old springs became popular again and in 1828 a modern suite of baths, one of the earliest in the district, were provided. Improvements were made and in 1852 this building was built to house the baths.

Today the building is the local swimming pool, only small but is very popular. Not so long ago there were plans to demolish the building, but local groups campaigned to save the baths and won!
