War Horse

Took a looonnnng trip down to London with Kathy to see War Horse at the New London Theatre on Drury Lane. The train down was delayed for over two hours because of a power problem at Crewe station. The train then had to return to Stockport before heading for London once again. Seeing as we were only going to London for the day, these two hours put quite a dent into our grand day out.

We did make it to London around 3pm so we went to Harrods as Kathy wanted to buy some gifts for friends for upcoming birthdays...tins of tea with London things on them...red buses, Houses of Parliament etc. I just stood, shocked by the price of a single chocolate truffle (£50). Seeing as I could probably eat at least four in one sitting, it's perhaps as well that Harrods isn't my local corner shop.

Next we went to Westminster because, to me, that is London. I took a couple of shots of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. I was also interested to see that there are tours of the Houses of Parliament on Saturdays....oooo, would love to go on that tour. It was cold, dark and windy by this time. We met up with my friend, Cathy, who lives in London and is the person who knows how to get around the city. (I know it's confusing but almost every friend I have is called Cathy/Kathy/Cath). We went to get something to eat near Drury Lane and Cathy also told us which tube to catch to get us to Victoria after the show. Unfortunately, Cathy wasn't coming to see the show with us so we said goodbye to her before going into the theatre. (Nice to see you, Cathy. Thanks for meeting up and helping us out).

Photography isn't allowed inside the theatre so you will have to make do with this shot from outside. I have only ever read rave reviews about War Horse so knew that it would be great but I never imagined how great. It is, without a doubt, the best theatre production I have ever seen. It's amazing. I'd cried four times before the interval and about four times after the interval. Everything about it is amazing...the way the horses are so lifelike; the acting; the singing; the simplicity of the stage and the drama it creates. I can't praise it highly enough. Everyone should see it!! We then had to dash around London once again to get to Victoria for our coach home....yes, a coach which was going via Milton Keynes, Leeds and Timbuktoo before arriving in Manchester. My bum has never been so numb. I don't care about the cost....I am NEVER getting on a coach for any distance beyond 5 miles in the future. That's my New Years Resolution...well, that and not swearing....actually another resolution is to join a choir so watch this space!!
