Armley Library

As well as the park, I may do a series of pictures of Armley buildings. Armley is a good place to live: it's not grand, and it has its moments, but it's convenient, cheap, friendly- and has some gorgeous old architecture.

Armley library (I find from www.leodis.net) was opened in 1902, and was the first purpose built library in Leeds. My googling turned up this rather excellent piece in the LRB by Alan Bennett, who spent the first 10 years of his life in Armley:

Last day of my 2 week Christmas holiday today. I am days away from an unfeasibly large pile of marking, a teaching load which, whilst less repetitive than before Christmas, requires an awful lot of balls to be kept in the air at once, and the onset of Open Day Anxiety. Only 10 weeks to Easter....
