Suet seeker

Even the woodpecker owes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away until he finishes the job he starts.

Very, very cold this morning with wind chill temperatures below freezing. I had to break out the Icelandic 66 Degrees North hat that our A brought me from Scandinavia last March. T got a brown one and we love them, but haven't had a chance to wear them. We've had such warm weather up to now, it's crazy really, this is New England, with a usually a cold winter climate! The hat was an excellent addition to the down and wool necessary early today. It's going to be a cold walk this morning as well, might be a short one!

Mr. Downy Woodpecker had snatched a big hunk of suet and was working on it deep inside the bush by the bird feeders. All the birds and squirrels are busy this morning after such a cold night. Yesterday I put out the heating coil in the pan of water so they have something unfrozen to sip.

Our left-over hearty vegetable soup will taste especially good this evening.
