I managed to get out of the house. Hoorah! I snapped this quick photo of the Pear Tree beer garden as the pretty twinkly lights attracted me.

This has inspired me to find out a bit more about the Pear Tree as it's somewhere I've been aware of since my under-age drinking days but I've never known much about it.

It turns out that the Pear Tree used to be the headquarters of Andrew Usher & Co. This is the firm that produced and marketed the very first blended whisky ever made in the form of Usher's Old Vatted Glenlivet. Andrew Usher is also the chap we have to thank for the Usher Hall on Lothian Road.
