After the storm
These rather sad pieces of crumpled metal came from our roof, where they were a major part of the ridging down the exposed south-western corner. We woke before 7am to hear a wild banging above our heads, just before all the lights in Dunoon went out and left us unable to investigate anything. We crawled back under the duvet and tried to ignore the sounds of the storm raging outside, and the first thing we saw when we resurfaced was our neighbour carrying a length of ridging from across the road.
Further investigation revealed our own traumatised roof - bits left sticking up all the way down one side - as well as similar damage all along our rather exposed crescent. At least one roof still had a large piece flapping about in the slowly decreasing wind at 3pm. The builder knows about us, and we keep our fingers crossed for his arrival before the next heavy rain. It won't be today.
I can't get over the flimsy nature of modern ridging, however. It used to be galvanised steel, capable of decapitating the unwary passer-by. I suppose this stuff has its benefits ...
