things like this tend to catch my attention.
the whole man vs nature thing-
but not in an in-your face 'man fights bear' kind of way,
but in a 'flowers coming up from the sidewalk,'
or 'plants growing around fences' kinda way.

i took the recycling out tonight,
then took a few minutes to just look over our yards.
these are not the same yards of my childhood.
the house is in the same place,
but the landscape is unrecognizable,
aside from basic shape.

at least 5 trees have been cut,
a large bush / shrub removed,
a next-door neighbor had the connecting yard completely redone
(it used to be a tiered area with a giant tree stump,
that was my favorite thing to climb & play on as a kid),
our shed was torn down (in a blip from last summer somewhere)..
and the plants that used to cover this fence have been removed.
this is pretty much all thats left of them, aside from a little stump in the ground.
the left side ends just out of frame on the top and bottom.
the backyard used to be almost entirely shade, and is now mostly sunny.
it feels bigger and more yard-like,
but as a kid i loved that it kinda felt like a mini-wooded area in the back,
since i was stuck living in the city.
original.
