Frozen Charlotte
These dolls were made between 1860 thru the early 1900's. Early Frozen Charlotte's were used to cool hot tea down at ladies tea parties. Once used, the little doll was given to a well behaved young girl who may have accompanied her mother to the tea. Later the smaller versions were baked into cakes and used as cup cake toppers. This info came from wikipedia. This little doll about an inch long has been in my family for over 100 years. I don't know who it belonged to, perhaps my grandmother. One of her arms is broken. Perhaps by a tooth biting down on her as she lay hidden in a cake?
The were called 'frozen' because they had no moving parts. I have another one that is about 5 inches long. A few boy dolls were made and called Frozen Charlies. I took this with my new macro lens. Could be better, but I'm working on it. :-)
