Fireworks at Midnight...
AND THE COOKER BLEW UP!!!!
The heating element on the main oven gave up the ghost it's new years day AND I have should have had 9 people for lunch!!!!
The plan B's went like this....
a) Pack it all up and take it over to Claire's to cook
b) Bung it in the freezer and go out for lunch
c) Bung it in the freezer and get a take away
d) Bung it on the BBQ
e) Cook it at home using grill / top oven and make do...
We couldn't do the first 4 as we had invited Paul's parents and the access to Claire's house isn't suitable for them, they don't do takeaways and eating out with them would be quite limiting too... BBQ...not in January!!
After great debate with friends on facebook I drew up a plan B, the pork loin was stripped of its crackling and popped into the slow cooker, the roast potatoes were cooked under the grill as was the crackling and everything else was stuffed into the small top oven....it worked, it was an hour late but it worked!!!
The funny thing was though, we had a phone call 10 minutes before we were due to pick up the in-laws, they were double booked....son #5 had just turned up to take them over to their house for lunch... ...we could have had that takeaway after all.....
Oh well, the bar opened early, the hair of the dog didn't help the headache, but the homemade chocolate & dark cherry roulade hit the spot!
I'm now sat here in the debris, the dishwasher is on its third cycle, the Christmas tree is on its last legs and the sweetie tin is empty....and I'm looking like a pot bellied pig on a pair of fat legs... I need a new year detox
