The Great Newness

Here it is! I've looked forward to today since before Christmas. Why? Because it's new. Everything I've ever wanted to do differently or better, I'll start doing today, because it's new: a new day, a new year. It only makes sense that I should have waited till today. The magic of this new chance to do things differently or better will last at least two weeks this time, maybe three. Some things will last longer like my resolution to love more, move more, dance more, play more, explore more, learn more and fight less, sit less, eat less and fret less.

It is a bit after midnight and absolutely beautiful out in the street. A neighbor has started to shovel the snow. It's Bill, maybe he's drunk. The fireworks are still going. Mr. M is already in dreamland. We did the Happy-New-Year-darling smooch at 11:00 pm. After I sleep the first sleep of 2012, I'll start the new day of the new year by cheerfully, not cursing, trying to shovel and move this heavy slop that's been falling for the last four hours. Really, I will.
