New Years Eve

Mike on The Roman Wall.

Mike woke up feeling much better. We had booked a table for a pub lunch so we headed off at 12 noon to drive to Wark near Hexham in Northumberland. Journey took about an hour.

We had our meal in Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant. I had fish and chips with mushy peas, Mike had lamb shank with mash and Becky had Burger with chips. Pudding menu was tempting but we were all too full up to try anything.

After the meal we had a walk around Wark - not much there - just a butcher ( closed) , another pub/B & B, a newsagent/grocer (open ) and a few houses.

We drove around for a while and stopped when we saw part of Hadrians Wall. As Mike is not from round these parts he had never seen any of The Roman Wall before so he wanted to take a look. We all got out of the car and walked across a very soggy field in the pouring rain to go and look. Mike was well pleased to finally set foot on the Wall.

Then it was back home to spend a quiet evening together eating buffet snacks and seeing in the New Year with celebratory drinks.

Becky and Mike will be making the long journey home to London tomorrow. It's been great having them here.
