Turning over a new leaf

This leaf is doing all the turning itself; I thought it looked pretty amazing.

Every New Year's Eve, Mum always comes out with this 'joke':

I went in to town today, and saw a man with as many noses as there are days in the year.

This confused me for years; I could never understand how Mum always managed to meet this mutant man on the same day of the year, and how I never bumped in to him either. I understand the humour now; some things take me a bit longer to grasp.
