Smuggler's Cottage, Tolverne

Smuggler's Cottage is a thatched cottage and small tea rooms dating from the 15th century. The shingle beaches at Tolverne and Turnaware Point were used, along with the beach at Trebah Gardens, overlooking the Helford, as embarkation points for Allied troops taking part in the D-Day Landings in 1944. There are often large ships lying at anchor on the River Fal alongside the cottage but today the one that was there wasn't near enough to get in the photo. They do a cracking Cornish cream tea but unfortunately they are closed until the spring. It would've been handy if they'd had a sign at the top of the long, narrow, windy road telling us this instead of at the bottom...
