My Grandfathers clock

I've been staying in a friends house the last few days. They are an old couple, in their 70's. Lovely amazing couple but there house is full of clutter and old things. There isn't a clear side in sight but I was quite intrigued with this old clock.
I wonder what the story is... where on earth is the actual clock?
