Bronzed Off

I've been having cell phone problems so his morning before we left Adelaide we had to go into the CBD to get it sorted. I ran into this family of pigs in Rundle Mall.

All cast in bronze, the Mum pig is eating out of a public rubbish bin (the trash is bronze too) while her two youngsters watch the crowd. Interestingly I went right past here yesterday but the place was so crowded that I completely missed seeing them.

Today we made the drive to Mildura with stops at Waikerie (on the Murray River) and Lake Bonney (the largest fresh water lake in Australia).

We had lunch on an old paddle steamer (the Murray River Queen) on the river. I was (as I always am - sorry to all Australians) slightly put off by the colour of the water but the experience was great.

Lake Bonney fascinated me. I am told that is the biggest fresh water lake in Australia - yet I could see across it! Not large by our standards, but amazing to come upon in such an arid land. I even put my toes in it just to prove I'd been there. While the Murray River had no sand or beaches but just mud banks, the lake had lovely white crystalline sand right along the beach. I was really surprised that such a lovely setting wasn't thick with tourists. Anyone who doesn't go there is missing out on a delightful surprise.
