Boxing Day fresh air
T, N and I with the dog drove down to Eype this morning to spend the day with my niece and her little family, my brother, nephew and his son.
After lunch we walked down to Eype Mouth. It was windy and cold but so great to be out in the sea air! Here is T holding the doglead along with his cousin J. There weren't many people around. Thorncombe Beacon is the name of the tall cliff. Just behind the cliffs to the left, one can see a shadowy outline of land where Lyme Regis is to be found. In the old days all along this coastline smugglers were busy with brandy and wines from France. Some had actually rowed their boats right across the channel, which is around 72 miles (140 odd miles round trip), before landing on the shingle at night with the risk of being caught by HM Customs men. Needless to say there are hundreds of old shipwrecks along the coast where divers today go down into the sea to explore.
