Deceit

... of lapwings; one of the weird and wonderful collective nouns for birds. An alternative is a desert of lapwings.

I went out for a wander on the moors today. It was very windy and changeable and although it looks gloomy, the other side of the sky was quite bright. There were lots of people around sporting their Christmas presents and generally scaring wildlife. I did get a fleeting glimpse of a water vole, and nice views of this small deceit of lapwings.
