The Eve
My husband's mother followed the tradition of burning a bayberry candle on Christmas Eve, so we continue it each year in our home, in her honor. The legend says to burn the candle all the way to the end & his mom always insisted no one blow it out until it was done. She'd put it in the sink to burn out if it was still going at bedtime. The boxed pairs of bayberry candles usually include the legend & some claim to burn them on New Year's. I don't chance anything, burning one Christmas Eve & the other New Year's Eve!
Early blip tonight as we're off to my parents for the evening. Found three gifts we forgot in our super hiding madness. Whew... now, I think it's all wrapped & ready for the morning!!
The magic of this night still feels intense, no matter how old we get. Seeing the joy through Hannah's eyes makes it all so special!!
