Villainously ugly

Writing in January 1822 of his journey south from Croydon to Lewes via Uckfield William Cobbett described the heath around here as "verily the most villainously ugly spot I ever saw in England". It was probably a day like today. Not much on at work. I usually reserve today for the annual clearing out of unwanted emails. Very cathartic.
