A time for everything

Trains, trestles and traditions

This morning, Roger and Laura went down to the airport to pick up Jen and Jason, flying in from Houston. I stayed at home to wrap some more presents and get a few odd jobs done. The weather is unseasonably warm at present, but dreary and wet - it rained steadily most of the day until this evening. So after lunch (a new recipe I tried - Thai chicken wraps, which was very good!) we went downtown to the holiday display at Krohn Conservatory, called Trains, trestles and traditions. It features several model trains amongst a background of poinsettias, cyclamen and other plants, and models of various Cincinnati landmarks, past and present. This shot shows the Church of the Immaculata in Mount Adams (top left), Salem United Church of Christ in Over the Rhine (right), and the former Mount Adams incline railway. We had a dreadful ride home afterward - late afternoon, rain and approaching holidays made for snarled up traffic. To make matters worse, we were supposed to be getting back for Laura's hair appointment. We took her straight there, amazingly only about 10 minutes late, and dropped her off, then the rest of us returned home, to find a phone message informing Laura that the hairdresser was running 15 minutes late - serendipity! The evening we spent singing Christmas carols, playing a board game and watching some of Laura's pictures from Belize. Jen and Jason retired fairly early, having had an early start.
