Beef Calves
The cows at the dairy farm are black and white Holsteins and Friesians so most of the calves are black and white too. Recently they have bought a Limousin bull so there are suddenly brown calves!
Dairy calves are taken from their mothers shortly after they are born. The cows are milked as usual, and the calves given it in buckets, measured amounts, while the rest goes into the tank and is taken away to be sold as milk, cheese, butter etc.
These little chaps have been left with their mothers, which is what usually happens in a suckler herd where the calves are destined for beef. Still, they are having a great time with their mums, running round together and enjoying the sunshine.
