Here's to those in uniform (and a few who aren't) who can't get home for this weekend.

And also to the clever guys at the garage in the village who worked out the problem with my little Alfa was the camshaft variator. Of course, I could have done it myself, with one small obstacle - if I can ever fix anything, it's software, not hardware. I'd already tried my subtlest trick: turn it off, wait 7 seconds (5 isn't enough) and turn it on again.

The last sentence of the linked page above is the key one for me.

I'm saving the broken variator, which is rather beautiful, for a future blip.
