Scotland The World Over - Winter Solstice Saltire!

I took part in Scotland The World Over!

We were up early and set off in the dark through the woods of St Ives estate to reach Alter Rocks (Druids Alter) for the sunrise on this the dawn of the Winter Solstice. We had seen a walk advertised some weeks ago from Bingley but we decided to make our own way with 6 women and 4 dogs. The sky gradually lightened with some interesting cloud formations tinged with pink. When we reched Alter rocks we were actually side on to the sunrise and some of it was masked by trees. Non the less it was a much better day then yesterday.

Just as we were about to return I spotted this natural Saltire in the blue sky between the clouds. It just had to be.

Returning through the woods and past Coppice Pond we also saw a heron - what a feast of possibilities - a great morning and from today the days get longer!!!!
