A day of reflections
The day started off well. Sharing a cup of tea with mum and having a chat until it was time to drive to the airport. Got to the airport in plenty of time and went to the lounge to catch up on blip. Spent most of the time unwillingly listening to someone talking on the phone and wondering when his flight was going to be called. Flight delayed. Only by 20 minutes so no worries, I will get to the funeral OK. Board 25 minutes later and then sit in plane for another 55 minutes while poor baby 2 rows behind exercises lungs. We eventually leave and just as we are waiting to enter runway, every plane decides to leave at that time so there is a long wait. Hmmmm. Uneventful flight but then arrive in Adelaide 1 hour late. They had caught up a lot of time on the flight. (About 1 1/2 hours flying time from Sydney) 20 minutes taxi ride to funeral home takes 35 minutes as we miss every set of lights from the airport. I walk in 2 minutes after it starts. I began to think that forces were conspiring against me.
It was a lovely send off for Bruce. He was aged 89 and had lived a very creative and fulfilling life and was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. I am cleaning up some images of his artwork so a book can be done of them. I was working on them on the plane on the way over so I was familiar with his artwork (oils, watercolours, sketches and so on) but was amazed at what he had done and achieved in his life. For instance, he submitted a design for the Sydney Opera House and it was rated no 65. Considering the competition, I suspect that was no mean feat. One of his passions was the goons. His grandson Nick said to me today he just didn't get them. Maybe you had to have grown up with them. If you are interested, here is one of his cartoon like sketches which I felt was appropriate for me today.
An uneventful trip back to Sydney. This was taken at Woolwich Ferry looking across Balmain/Birchgrove to the city. So many wonderful blip opportunities today but I left my camera in Sydney.
On other news I heard Byron who I blipped yesterday had to go to hospital last night. He had another attack of Croup. Poor wee lad, he is OK now.
One last thing, the Christmas Lights tonight are on a house up the road from where my mum lives in Lane Cove.
It has certainly been a day of reflections. Apologies for the long ramble tonight and thanks if you have stuck it out to the end.
