Street life

Early blip, as I strode forth to buy fruit and schlep back down to work to collect the memory card and card reader for my Fuji that I'd left in my desk drawer. The bright sun seems to have bleached all colour out of this shot, and making it look a little like the street in the 'Hovis' bread advert, but not as steep.

My thoughts are now turned toward my holiday reading. I wouldn't make a good book club member because I don't think there is a book club in existence that specialises in the schlock horror genre (eg Slug by Shaun Hutson, The Mercy Seat by someone I can't remember etc etc).

I'm trying for a bit of a mix, so my foray to the library resulted in 3 schlock horror novels plus 'Beijing Coma' by Ma Jian which I am loving a lot! It's the story of a guy who lies in his bedroom in a coma after he was shot in the head 10 years previously at the Tiananmen Square protest. His friends visit, updating him on their lives in an almost unrecognisable China, and the guy recalls the events of his childhood to the last years of the Cultural Revolution and his time as a student at Beijing University.

I'm also planning on getting round to reading 'Creating a World without Poverty' by Mohammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank and often referred to as the founder of microcredit.

I guess I should have read his book 'Banker to the Poor' years ago, as I used to work on a microcredit programme. I think that was about the time that I really got into schlock horror novels ;-)
