A Flag for the People

I've been increasingly disturbed over the last 7-8 years. The flag of the United States has lost it's role of representing the people of the U.S. and has become a symbol of conservative politics and the Christian Right.

I don't know how this happened. For years I've decorated my home with my collection of vintage flags. Now I don't fly a single one. I'm ashamed of what it's come to stand for.

I've realized lately that it does still stand for the things that I believe in and the only way to reclaim it is to fly it and speak out.

So as my small town, and the nation, prepare for Independence Day on Friday, I'll be thinking a lot about flags.
