walking in the city

Dominion Day

aka Canada Day. Morning walk and besides a few dog walkers and joggers the streets are empty. An absolute stunner of a day.

The Beaches will be packed with people, the waterfront jammed. Big backyard bbqs and street parties in neighbourhoods all over; special events in school grounds and parks. People are going to have a whale of a time, picnicking, strolling, partying, eating, setting off fireworks. But for now it's quiet.

I could roam down to the Leslie Spits or ride my bike to the ferry docks and do a little day-trip on the Island. But instead I will take a holiday from everything, stay home with the windows and doors open, sweep the catalpa blossoms and hand-wash my delicates. Birds will sing, aeroplanes will drone overhead, the cross-breezes will dry my slips, hose, and drawers.

And then just chill 'til later when I go to T's place to watch the fireworks. The view will be spectacular. From there you can see the big price-y sponsored fireworks displays like at Ash Bridges Bay, Nathan Philips Square, Ontario Place, and way far out 'round the Lake. Maybe tonight as far as Niagara Falls.

Glad it will turn out to be such a gorgeous day for everyone to celebrate.
