I had an interesting morning at the Genetic Clinic in Edinburgh talking to a Cancer Genetic Nurse. We discussed my family history and whether it increases my own risk of developing cancer at some point. It does, so I am now on the screening program in Scotland. Serious stuff, although the likelihood is low and the nurse so utterly matter of fact and reassuring. For me it wasn't so much the fear of developing the disease, but wanting and needing to talk with someone armed with the facts. After my appointment the girls and I went shopping. A few mild strops in public places, but nothing too humiliating! The rest of the day passed in a blur as we rushed from Paddy's 6th birthday party to Sam's judo to the girl's bath time to picking up Nick from work to a bowl of cereal and finally bed.
